1Malaysia Lunch @ only RM 3

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday had a Menu Rakyat programme lunch that cost him RM3 and praised the food for its taste and quality.

Najib arrived at the Ukhwah Restaurant in Jalan Medan Tuanku here at 12.40pm and was joined by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his deputy, Datuk Tan Lian Hoe.

He spent about 45 minutes at the restaurant which is one of 1,004 Malay, Chinese, Indian and ethnic Sabah and Sarawakian restaurants to offer the Menu Rakyat programme -- a nationwide government food programme -- where breakfast costs between RM1 and RM2 and lunch between RM2 and RM4.

Najib's order included white rice and vegetables, fried beef and cendol.

Ismail Sabri later told reporters that Najib praised the food for its taste, quality and the programme for creating awareness and encouraging people to have a balanced diet.

"He wanted to eat the food that everyone eats under the programme. He wanted to taste it," he said at the restaurant after Najib left.

SIMPLY UNFASHIONABLE: RM 3 for a plate of rice with chicken wings, fried beef, veggie, crackers and also cendol? You kidding me? McDonald's, goodbye!
